Scratch Jackson State's name from the list, they are not participating.

Is that "official" that they will not participate? I hate that because they are one of the better bands around.

Official word seems to have just dropped today. Alcorn is replacing the boom.

You were right Smoke! Alcorn is probably the most entertaining band in the SWAC!

Alcorn Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite selected for 2017 Honda Battle of the Bands

The Alcorn State University Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite marching band is being rewarded for being one of the top historically black college and university bands in the nation.

The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite will be one of the eight bands participating in the 2017 Honda Battle of the Bands Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia at 1:30 p.m.

The Honda Battle of the Bands was created to celebrate, support and recognize the excellence of black college marching bands and the unique academic experience offered by HBCUs. Honda annually awards approximately $200,000 in grants to participating marching bands during the program period.

Alcorn Director of Bands Dr. Renardo Murray is proud of the band’s invitation, and looks forward to putting on a show for thousands of spectators.

“It is truly an honor for the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite marching band to return to Atlanta next year and represent the University on the national level,” said Murray. “Performing in the 2017 Honda Battle of the Bands is reflective of what kind of band the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite really is.”

Why would you include your band in consideration if you believe you're too amazing too go two years back to back?

The first Honda put a bad taste in doc mouth after hotels got messed up bands in the tunnels for hours and other stuff he took them off the list. but gsu isnt the only band to do that SU did too. But despite how people feel about gsu on this site gsu had a good season and entertaining shows. GSU Does do good shows and if they ever go they'll do a good job. gsu won 2004 hbotb but turned it down so Bama St replaced them. I wonder why the SIAC is ignored for Honda.

Noooooobody outside of Grambling is trying to listen to the world famed! Panell is so old school, that his "can't see the forest for the trees," shuckin' and jivin' sellout mentality has turned an acclaimed program into a laughing stock among HBCU bandheads. Grambling NEEDS to hire Dr. Ed Thomas as director of bands immediately for instant and prolonged credibility!!

ZEUS what was wrong with 2016 GSU? They received house every stadium they been to this season. had a good sound too and stayed consistent on their field shows. Hell bayou classic gsu woke the dome up with that " the weekend" mix and they maintained a consistent sound the entire night the crowd loved both gsu an su they hated both bands song selections but they both performed well. They performed well at the swac Championship too. but you can't please everyone bht one thing gsu does is good field shows and that is always how it's been. yet half the swac are becoming stand bands yet not giving a BLEEP about their shows. And I'm sure they will perform well on NBC vs NCCU just as they did this season. But gon head get your memes ready and type in your longgggggggg gsu rants but clips are up and its shown gsu did well this season

I think you may have grossly mischaracterized my post. I don't do long rants. I simply stated that with Larry Panell at the helm, the world famed is only the world famed in their own minds. I never mentioned the field shows or their stand presence in my post. I applaud your efforts, BUT NOOOOOO ONE is clamoring to see a GSU clip. If one watches a GSU clip, I guarantee you he/she will not wait with anticipation to watch it again! Again, I'll state for the record, Dr. Edwin "Cricket" Thomas deserves to be the man in charge at the "G!"

Ummmmmm....... The SWAC Champ Show that GSU did was from the BC and they did NOT perform well (OK but NOT Well), in fact the show did NOT get ANY PUSH especially from their OWN crowd. The days of The World Famed are SLOWING declining, I believe it's TIME for some NEW Blood on the Staff and MAYBE a NEW Director of Bands........IJS!

Why is it that a lot of others recognize that Grambling is not as prominent of a band the way they used to be? I hate to admit it, AND this is not a post on the World Famed, but Zeus is correct in his assertions that change is required for Grambling to return to prominence among HBCU bands.

Thank you for getting back on topic...this year's "Final 8 Honda Bands!" So is your list your performance ranking? What did others think? I couldn't attend this year so I have only watched the YouTube clips. I'd like to hear from bandheads that actually attended.

BCU definitely came out with a slight edge on The competition. I see Mr. Wells is allowing the brass to open up more. 14k was out for blood as well. Great show full of energy and power from beginning to end. I love that spend the night. It sounds beautiful when bands play it such a great concert tune. The only complaint I have Is that I couldn't see it in person.

NCAT had a great show as well. You can tell that they work so hard. I liked that love don't live here anymore. Especially that tuba part at the end.

Alabama AM sounded great and their color guard is always a treat to watch.
