Tonight at 9pm EST on #The90DegreeShow we ask the question...Are band rankings and band polls helping or hurting the craft? Our usual panel will be there but we want to hear from you at 1-888-909-1050 to get your opinion on the topic.

I missed the broadcast but I don't think polls or ranking are worth a crap. Band performances unlike athletic performances are all subjective. Most polls are based on who gets the most votes...if you have an enthusiastic fan base, they can stuff the ballot box in your favor. Doesn't mean your band is worth a crap, just that your fan base is willing to take the time to vote. And so-call "rankings" are just as bad. What's the criteria the so-call judges are using? And what's biases do they bring to the ranking?

The only thing polls and rankings are good for is creating arguments between the various band fans and programs. If you believe that arguments between band programs and fans are beneficial then you probably enjoy polls and rankings.

Amen lol. I said basically alot of what you said above but I think the group did a good job of presenting all sides of the argument. Here is the article that was the base of our conversation. The Undefeated from ESPN has created this poll to highlight HBCU bands and they are going to decide a band of the year at the Celebration Bowl this year.
