Doctoral Student does a study on HBCU Marching Bands

Greetings

My name is Kevin James and I am a student at Nova Southeastern University completing a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Administration. I am conducting research on HBCU’s through my dissertation. All HBCU’s with marching band programs have been invited to participate.

The title of my dissertation is: Phenomenological Case Study of the Impact of Historical Black College Marching Bands. There is limited research in this subject area. The purpose of the research project is to examine the history of the black college marching band, and its effect on higher education.

The findings in this study will compare and contrast the perceptions of college presidents, band leaders, band members, staff/students, alumni, and the general public regarding the marching band's effect on their institution. From that information, I plan to construct the link between HBCU marching bands and institutional effectiveness.

Please take 5 minutes to complete the attached online survey. Forward this link to as many members the HBCUs community as possible. I would like as many schools represented as possible. Thank you for your help!

Kevin E. James, Doctoral Candidate

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so glad you are doing this. I did a similar type of study on resilience in impoverished youth. Let me know if I can help.
