Any tips on things one should do pre-deployment wise?

What did you do to keep your mind off home during deployment?

Best way to air-out once you returned?

All information shared will be greatly appreciated.

Just make sure all bills are in order, family have your contact info just in case they have to get in touch with you via American Red Cross. Your cell phone provider, you can have them suspend your service due to military deployment because you can get a phone overseas for the low at least that's what I did when I went to Camp Balad in 2009 in Iraq when I was in the Army Reserves. Also, set up a power of attorney. Also, if you want, you can set up allotments with military pay to pay your bills ie car note, etc while you're away. And save save save your money because you're getting paid tax free. Hold on, are you going to the sandbox? I also went to Riyadh Air Base when I was Air Force(1993-1997) Did a 3 month tour there.

I think Vibe1911 covered things pretty well. What you have in your favor in these modern technological times is the ability to keep in close contact with loved ones back in "the world" (Old school Army jargon). Way back during the Desert Storm era, there was only the rare AT&T phone bank, which ALWAYS had a long line, in which to call home. Now, it's much different. Last year I was in Afghanistan (contracting) and I could actually Skype from my cell phone. So you don't have to worry as much about back home issues because it's much easier to stay in contact.

I wish to God I hadn't got a power of attorney. Honestly, you can't trust anybody with that type of money just sitting in the bank.

I went to Al Anbar, Iraq in 2005. Honestly, thinking about getting back home to band kept me focused. I was infantry; thought I joined the Navy but got attacked to the Marines, so I came back with a little something called PTSD that unfortunately went untreated for about 5 years.

Request care packages of all your snacks. Save your money. If you get to hit the chow halls on Sunday, enjoy the steak and lobster. Get your range score up. Keep your head on a swivel. Get back home.

 YEP

I had friends that did 3 tours in the sandbox just for the money. One paid for a 2012 Escalade cash, no car note and paid for a foreclosed house with cash. He made a grip over there. So SAVE SAVE SAVE.

Not sure what your job designation is but one of the tactics by the Marines (and Navy) were to get people to deploy with a short amount of time on their contracts so they'd have to reenlist or sign an extension while in country.

For some guys, this was great! They could negotiate their contract for another job or C school and collect a nice little tax free bonus. I remember one guy getting $30K to re-up.

I had about 6 months left on my contract & I got a letter in the mail. I didn't open it. At the time, I was in non-drilling status. But I already knew what time it was and with my job, getting a new C school wouldn't change my combat designation. I received an honorable discharge once my contract ended.

Avionics.

I'm done in 2017. Unless I get to switch jobs I'm hitting that door. I tried to go Active with Air Fore band as audio engineer but Pentagon won't let anyone switch branches right now if they're not spec ops or willing to go spec ops.

My biggest mistake signing up was not signing up for active duty. So now I may be to old once 2017 gets here.....f*** it

I can neither confirm nor deny the use of Pirate Bay, but I hear that its great. People in your unit that have already deployed will have plenty of films, although it will consist mostly of porn. Drag & Drop

Go to the gym. Pick heavy things up and put them down. Enjoy the tax free money. I doubt there are too many "combat deployments" going on still so you will have a lot of online time...STAY AWAY FROM AMAZON
